- Did Congresswoman liberal Democrat Loretta Sanchez's
reckless, immature comments during visit to Vietnam April 5,
2007 put jailed Vietnamese dissidents and relatives at risk of harm ? -
O.C. Register Washington reporter Dena Bunis article on
Orange County Democrat Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez
recent visit to Vietnam [ ' Sanchez details Vietnam encounter,
"Goons" kept dissidents relatives from meeting with her, she
says', April 6 ] is a very telling story of Ms. Bunis liberal
bias reporting.
Even a child could see Ms.Sanchez's motives for her visit:
A mere stunt at political pandering in an attempt to get votes
from the Orange County Vietnamese community of her district.
Her comments calling the communist soldiers "goons" reeked
of blatant immaturity and selfishness based on political
pandering of the worst kind.
Who notified the Vietnamese dissident relatives residing in Vietnam in
advance
of Ms. Sanchez's trip? Who told them where she would be?
Sanchez's
handlers? Non -governmental Vietnamese contacts here in
the States and in Vietnam? The U.S. ambassador
to Vietnam?
Ms.
Sanchez called the Vietnamese soldiers " goons" who blocked
the jailed
dissidents mother and group of women from entering
Sanchez's
prearranged meeting location at the U.S. ambassador's
residence.
Sanchez's name calling occurred at her hotel while on
the phone in an interview with the media after Sanchez had tried
to meet with the women, relatives of jailed dissidents in Vietnam,
at the U.S. ambassador's residence.
" We still don't know where some of them are, if they got home,"
Sanchez D-Garden Grove, said from her hotel room. "There were
about 15 goons roughing them up." Her comments and name
calling are an outrage of disbelief ! One has to wonder how much
pain and misery the relatives of the dissidents and the jailed dissidents
themselves are now receiving from torture, mentally and physically,
because Democrat Congresswoman Sanchez called the communist
soldiers" Goons" while on the phone in an interview with the media,
all the while believing the Hanoi government was listening to her call !
In addition, what about those comments published in the Orange
County Register newspaper article making their way back to
Vietnam ?
What
is utterly shocking is that Congresswoman Sanchez told the
Orange
County Register reporter on the phone during her interview
that she
believed the Hanoi government was listening to her calls:
' She said she
believes the government jammed the cell phones
she received when she
arrived there and she's had to switch phones
several times. The
Congresswoman also believes the Vietnamese
government is monitoring her
calls.When asked what she would be
doing after the meeting with
government officials, Sanchez said:
"I have some other things to do
that I can't talk about because
people are listening." '
Because the Vietnamese soldiers blocked the dissidents
mother and group of women from entering Sanchez's location
for the meeting at the U.S.ambassador's residence, the
meeting did not take place.
I believe Ms.Sanchez's immature and amateurish conduct
was based on pandering for a photo op. Did it put the dissidents
and their relatives at risk of harm from the communist government?

" Michael Marine, the U.S. ambassador to Vietnam, tried to intercede
but finally advised the women to go home because he feared for their
safety."[ O.C. Register, April 6 2007] Sanchez stated from her hotel
room in her phone interview while in Vietnam to O.C. Register reporter
Dena Bunis that she does not believe the Hanoi regime will ever grant
her another visa to enter Vietnam again :
' Now she believes she has
made her last trip to Vietnam. " They'll
never give me another visa,"
said Sanchez, who planned to spend
only two days in the country. '
